Your most frequent questions about air duct maintenance answered here. You will be amazed.
Is it true that dirty air ducts increase my energy consumption costs?
Yes. With heavy build-up of dust and other contaminants, the air ducts and your central air conditioning system will become less efficient. When the fan, the filter, air ducts or other critical components of your central air conditioning system become bogged down with accumulated dirt, dust and other such contaminants, this will translate into extended hours of use as well as use of higher settings just to reach and maintain your preferred temperature thus leading to a higher electric bill.
I don’t seem to be saving on power costs by switching my vents off, why?
If you are absolutely certain that there are no leaks in your system, trying to save power by only using your vents when necessary may not be as effective as you’d think. Vents must work harder to reach a consistent temperature throughout the home than they do having to maintain it. But if your system is underperforming significantly while still using lots of power, then perhaps it is necessary to conduct an air duct maintenance session.
What do air ducts really do?
Ducts are transferring air. Otherwise, the ventilating, exhaust and HVAC system won't work. These systems need air to operate and ducts will also serve when the indoor air needs to be removed. They actually allow air circulation and that's how the HVAC system, for example, produces warm and cool air. Hence, air duct maintenance is a must.
Why doesn't the dryer dry the clothes?
When dryers don't dry well the clothes, it means that there is accumulated lint in the vents. It's the first sign that you must proceed with dryer vent cleaning according to our specialists in Canyon Country. The concentrated lint blocks airflow and the mechanism won't work well. So, it cannot dry the clothes well.
How will I know my air ducts are ok?
Open the vent covers and check with your flashlight whether the ducts are clean but you won't have access to all parts of the ducts. It's easier to do air quality testing to check the levels of contaminants. If the HVAC cannot produce the requested temperatures, it means that you need air duct repair.
What duct materials are best?
Sheet metal and galvanized mild steel are the most common materials. If you are planning air duct replacement, you must also be cautious about the insulation of the materials according to the specialists of Air Duct Cleaning Canyon Country. Make sure they are connected properly and sealed. Fiberglass with acrylic coating is also an excellent choice.
